I’m concerned about Maggie

Come on, Maggie, you can do it!

Last week while we were walking the Gyllendogs, Savannah pointed out that Maggie was walking with a weird gait.  She seemed to favor her left rear leg, and the leg motion seemed to have a slight “twist” when she put the leg forward.   She was fine on the walk, however, and showed no sign of any pain or even discomfort.

Over the weekend, we took them to Riverside Park for a swim and a romp.  She and Jake ran up and down the riverbank, a drop of about 40 feet, jumping in the river, then climbing back up the bank and spraying us with river water as they shook from head to toe.  (You would think they would shake off BEFORE they climbed back up, but no.)  They did this for a good 90 minutes, and hardly seemed tired at all.

Again, Maggie showed no signs of discomfort, but she did have some trouble with the last bit of the climb.  Here you can see her pausing for a moment before scrambling up.   Jake had no trouble making this last jump – he just bounded right up.

So now I am a little concerned that Maggie might have an issue with her leg, maybe even hip dysplasia.  We have an appointment with the vet next month for a 1 year checkup, and I am going to ask him about this.   (If it gets any worse, then we will pay him a visit right away.)

We’ll keep y’all posted.

  1. Awww, I hope she’s okay! I know I get so freaked out when my dog acts the slightest bit different… keep us posted!

  2. Hope it’s nothing but a sore foot!

  3. Hope Maggie’s feeling top dog again soon!

  4. Poor Maggie. I hope she’s back to normal soon.

And thank you for the words of comfort on my post yesterday. It really did help to know there are others who understand how much our pets are a part of the family.

  5. I hope Maggie is okay and just sprained her leg/foot or something.
