Japan Trip

In April of 2007 I was lucky enough to accompany Savannah and a group from Cheraw High School on a spring break trip to Japan.  Our trip leader was Gail Ingram, who is an expert at leading group tours, and she made it a memorable experience for all of us.  I especially enjoyed seeing the sights and sampling the cuisine.

Savannah, on the other hand, was more interested in another kind of scenery.

Each time she saw someone with a puppy she approached and made a new friend.

The Japanese were very polite and friendly and seemed pleased to show off their pets.

Soon Savannah had our Japanese tour guide teach her to say “May I meet your dog?” in Japanese.

After that she was saying “konnichiwa”, or “hello” to every critter in sight.

This young Akita was her favorite.  It reminded her of Hachiko, the most famous dog in Japan.  If you don’t know his story, you can learn about him here and hereThere’s a movie based on his life coming out later this year.

She did not limit her affection to doggies, though.  She found this kitty wandering near a temple in Kamakura.

And in the courtyard of the Great Buddha, she was greeted by a flock of pigeons.

This was a most enjoyable trip.  Gail says she is taking another group to Japan in 2011, and maybe we will go again…
