First visit to the vet

Gyllendogs patio

Today after work Savannah and I took the Gyllendogs to see Dr. Lawhon at Sandy Memorial Animal Hospital over in Hartsville.  It was their first visit and overall it was a very positive experience for them.  For the trip I placed a large tarp in Stinky’s back seat.  I told Savannah I didn’t want Stinky’s smell to get on the dogs.   They were great on the ride over, a little excited at first, but they settled down pretty quickly.  When we arrived at the office they did fine in the waiting area.  There was a cat in a crate that they didn’t notice at all, and of course the old white cat that is always sleeping on the chair in the corner.  Jake and Maggie were a little bit interested in the cat, but then a girl came out with a frisky shepherd-mix pup.  This little guy was very energetic and interested in playing.  He was about the same size as J&M.  Maggie was a little intimidated by this pup, and Jake was indifferent.

After a bit this litte guy left, and we were called to go back.  Dr. Lawhon checked them over well and gave them some worm medicine, their 3-month shots,  and also their rabies vaccinations.    He also gave us some heartworm medicine and instructed us to start it in 7 days.  On the ride home, J&M slept most of the way.  The bottom line, a nice, non-traumatic first visit to the vet.
